Pat Smear (who later played in Nirvana) and a Gold Mountain employee met Kurt at the Los Angeles airport and drove him to the Exodus Recovery Center, in the Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital, in Marina del Rey, California.
In this time Courtney went to see El Duce. El Duce was a drummer and singer for the rock band The Mentors. He claimed Courtney Love approached him and offered him $50,000 to kill Kurt Cobain. Upon completing a lie detector test he passed with a 99.91% certainty that he was telling the truth. Noted, his claims were captured on film. In an interview El Duce stated that he declined and passed the offer to his friend and then he slipped up and mentioned a name. In the interview with Nick Broomfield El Duce claimed that he knew who killed Kurt Cobain (giving the name "Allen"), but said he would "let the FBI catch him". Many believed to be the infamous Allen Wrench.
Allen Wrench is a member of the band "Kill Allen Wrench" and thought to have actually killed Kurt Cobain in the place of El Duce. From time to time posts cryptic messages concerning his possible guilt on social media.
Karush Sepedjian, who worked in the Rock Shop stated that when he witnessed a conversation between Courtney Love and El Duce in the Rock Shop:
Courtney Love: "El, I need a favor of you. My old man's been a real asshole lately, I need you to blow his fucking head off." El Duce: "Are you serious"? Courtney Love: "Yeah, I'll give you $50,000 to blow his fucking head off." El Duce: "I'm serious if you are". Courtney Love: "Where can I reach you"? El Duce: "You can reach me here".
El Duce and Courtney Love went into the store that Karush Sepedjian managed, "El Duce was kicking it out on the bench in front of the store and she came up. I overheard her saying, "Can you handle doing this? Can you get this done? What do you want for it"? They were talking about knocking off Kurt Cobain. Then El brought her inside and said to me quietly, "She offered me $50,000".
There is a sound clip of El Duce's interview with Rocket that was recorded the night before his death right before the last Mentors show. Luckily, El Duce decided to give the full name of Kurt's killer for the first and only time on that night. The odd thing is that the only place this can be found is buried in the MP3 section on the KILLALLENWRENCH "band" website. It is like Allen Wrench wants to get caught. He even admitted to killing Kurt and described details only El Duce's killer would know in "Love and Death," by Wallace and Halperin. El Duce planned to cooperate with a SPD/LAPD investigation, but did not live to do so. However, the clerk at the store that Courtney solicited El Duce at, Karush Sepedjian, is alive and in hiding and he heard everything El Duce heard. He was also asked if he would kill Kurt when Courtney could not reach El Duce for the hit and was probably the one to give her Allen Wrench's name in El Duce's absence.
Courtney Love went to Allen Wrench with the same offer and he probably did the job.
Some speculate that El Duce did not have the stomach to kill Cobain and since he was about to go on tour with his band, this was the perfect excuse not to kill him. It is believed that Allen Wrench took up the offer to kill Cobain in El Duce's absence. Allen went from being constantly poor to having money and buying a house and a sports car. Was this from money Courtney paid him? On social media Allen himself leaves teasing messages regarding Kurt's death.
Many think that Allen also killed El Duce's since he was talking to the press and "accidentally" mentioned Allen's name in an interview referring to Kurt's murderer.
Hoke's final musical performance was given on Friday, April 18, 1997 at Al's Bar in downtown Los Angeles. The next day at 5 pm on April 19, 1997 an unknown man, some say it was Allen Wrench, came to pick up El Duce, they left for the liquor store and then El Duce was found dead on the railroad tracks at 9pm in Riverside, CA after being struck by a train. There were no witnesses. Police were unable to locate the man seen with Duce that afternoon. His death was one day after his final performance and two days after filming his interview for the Kurt & Courtney documentary.
Why was El Duce found dead in mysterious surroundings with no witnesses after he claimed several times that he was offered to kill Kurt Cobain and when he even passed the polygraph test with flying colors?
Back to Courtney Love...
After a stop in San Francisco, Courtney flew to Los Angeles, and on the morning of the 26th, Courtney Love checked into the Peninsula Hotel, in Beverly Hills, and began an outpatient program to detox from tranquilizers and other abuse substances.
From phone records from the Pensuela Hotel: Later during Courtney's stay at the hotel, it was revealed she subsequently phoned Kurt at Exodus Recovery Center - arguing with the staff when she was told Kurt was unavailable. Courtney tried to call Kurt 13 times on April 1st.
Kurt Cobain spent two days at the Exodus Recovery Center. According to one of Cobain’s visitors at the clinic, “I was ready to see him look like shit and depressed. He looked so fucking great. He walked out an hour later.” At 7:25 p.m., Kurt Cobain told the clinic staff he was stepping out onto the patio for a smoke and then he left the Recovery Center on april 1st, 1994. Kurt booked a flight and went back to his house in Seattle, where he arrived on April 2, 1994. After talking to Micheal Calli Dewitt (Frances Nanny, hired by Kurt and Courtney in 1994) and his girlfriend Jessica Hopper, the last persons to see Kurt alive, convinced Kurt to call Courtney. Kurt dialed the number of the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. The hotel operator announced Courtney Love wasn't taking any calls. This is her husband. Let me through!!" Kurt demanded. Kurt had forgotten the code name that was needed to reach his wife. He kept repeating. "This is her husband," but the hotel operator wouldn't let him through. Frustrated, he hung up.
Kurt Cobain tried several times to contact Courtney Love at the Peninsula Hotel. The hotel switchboard, told to hold all calls except from Courtney Love's husband. Kurt failed to phone call to Courtney love but left behind a message.
On April 1st, 1994. Kurt's message was confirmed according to hotel records. As it appeared to reference a person and phone number that would make sense to Courtney Love.
The following message from Kurt Cobain to Courtney Love reads:
April 1, at exactly 8:47 p.m., The Peninsula Hotel switchboard took a message for
Courtney Love: Husband called. 'Elizabeth's number is': (213) 850 ***
The number is located within the Los Angeles area code.
Why would Kurt leave a message to his wife and leave a phone number if he was suicidal?
Kurt went back to his house in Seattle. The next day, April 2 1994, Courtney canceled Kurt's creditcards and hired private investigator Tom Grant to find Kurt. But Kurt had already flown back to Seattle. “I talked to Cali Dewitt.” Dylan Carlson says, “who said he had seen Kurt on Saturday April 2 1994 in his home in Seattle, but I couldn’t get ahold of him.”
Neither could anybody else.

Kurt and Courtney's former house in Seattle around 1994.
